Dynacare baby powder, potentially contaminated with asbestos, has been the subject of an expanded recall affecting 35 states and online sales through Amazon. This information comes from a notice released by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Montvale, New Jersey-based Dynarex Corp. announced on Monday that it is expanding a recall initially reported in September. The recall now includes an additional 1,020 cases of Dynacare baby powder, specifically the 14-ounce and 4-ounce sizes, due to concerns about possible asbestos contamination.
Asbestos, a known carcinogen, is a naturally occurring mineral often found near talc, which is a common ingredient in many cosmetic products. The expanded recall follows routine testing conducted by the FDA, as noted in Dynarex’s announcement.
Customers who have purchased the recalled baby powder are advised to stop using it immediately and return it for a refund. The affected products were shipped to distributors on or after January 18, 2024, and were sent to the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
The initial recall involved 62 cases of Dynacare baby powder, with each case containing 24- and 14-ounce bottles. The recalled powder was manufactured between October 31, 2023, and February 1, 2024, with expiration dates ranging from October 30, 2026, to January 31, 2027. Dynarex has halted further distribution of the product and is currently investigating the cause of the contamination.
