Autumn Oxley Crittendon, a star of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, passed away on July 20 at her home in Henrico County, Virginia. The Virginia Department of Health has determined that her death resulted from drug toxicity caused by fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl, an illegal synthetic opioid. The health department has labeled the incident as accidental.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, many synthetic opioids are significantly more potent than morphine and heroin, leading to a higher risk of overdose.
Autumn appeared on the fifth season of 16 and Pregnant in 2014, alongside her then-boyfriend, Dustin Franklin, prior to the birth of their son, Drake, who is now 10 years old. She was found unresponsive in her home in July.
The Henrico County Police Division stated, “Once on scene, officers and fire personnel located an adult female unresponsive within the residence. Members from Henrico Fire attempted life-saving measures; however, they were not effective. Autumn Oxley, 27, of Henrico, was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
In the days following her death, Autumn’s sister, Misty Crittendon, paid tribute on Facebook, referring to Autumn as her “beautiful baby twin.” She expressed her determination to keep Autumn’s memory alive, writing, “I won’t allow your memory to fade… EVER. I fought for you your entire life, and I will continue to do so until I join you.”
Misty also launched a GoFundMe campaign for Autumn’s family, describing her sister as a “mother of two little boys, Drake and Luke, and a beautiful little girl, Abigail.” She remarked that the day Autumn died felt like their world had “crashed.”
“She was a beloved mother, daughter, and sister who will never be forgotten,” Misty wrote on the fundraiser page. “To say it was unexpected is an understatement. It has been excruciatingly painful.”
On October 21, the same day Autumn’s cause of death was announced, Misty updated her Facebook profile picture to one of the two sisters with their children, reflecting on their close bond.
“We did it all together, even becoming mothers,” Misty shared. “Then we raised our babies together, and they did everything together. We miss you so much, beautiful. I love you more than you’ve ever known.”
