A baby was shot and killed by a toddler who found a loaded gun in a parked car, according to police.
The incident happened on Monday in a parking lot near a medical center in San Antonio, Texas. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus reported that three children and a woman were in the vehicle at the time. The children, ages 3, 2, and approximately 10 or 11 months, were seated in the back.
Chief McManus explained that one of the older children reached for a loaded long gun located at the back of the vehicle and “accidentally pulled the trigger,” resulting in the tragic shooting of the youngest child.
“What we have here today is a terrible, terrible tragedy,” McManus stated during a press briefing on Monday.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
