NRL Star’s $130,000 Bali Nightmare After Premature Birth

by Jessica

Dally M medallist Nicho Hynes is among several contributors to a GoFundMe page set up for Cronulla teammate Jesse Ramien. The fund aims to help bring Ramien’s newborn son home from Bali after he was born six weeks premature.

The GoFundMe page was initiated by the partner of another Sharks player, as Ramien and his fiancée, Shell, had traveled to Bali to attend the wedding of fellow player Briton Nikora.

Ramien, who has played 145 games for the Sharks, and his fiancée received medical clearance to travel and secured all necessary insurance. However, the costs associated with caring for baby Teo have quickly exceeded their coverage. In a heartfelt appeal, Shauvan Hunt shared that an emergency cesarean section was required to deliver the baby boy, who is currently in an incubator at Siloam Hospital. The expenses to bring him home could surpass $130,000.

“After just three days in Bali, Shell went into early labor. Despite the doctors and nurses at Siloam Hospital in Denpasar doing their best to stop the contractions, Shell ultimately needed an emergency C-section,” Hunt wrote on the fundraising page, urging for donations. “Unfortunately, she was put under anesthesia and woke up without her baby, unaware of his condition.”

Teo was resuscitated for five minutes before he began breathing and was then rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Shell and Jesse were not able to meet their baby until 9 a.m. the following morning.
