A heavily pregnant woman from Texas lost her baby after another woman kicked her multiple times in the stomach following a minor car accident.
The victim, who was in her second trimester, accidentally hit a parking pole and a curb. Her flip-flop got stuck between the gas and brake pedals, causing her to sideswipe another car.
The incident occurred on July 27 outside a corner store on Lockwood Drive in Houston. The woman explained to KHOU11, “I got stuck. I gave a little bit of gas and I sideswiped a vehicle behind me.”
After the accident, the pregnant woman got out of her car to check for damage. As she did, another woman approached her. While the victim was trying to assess the situation, this woman allegedly grabbed her purse from the passenger seat and started going through it.
“I thought maybe I hit her car because she came up behind me and grabbed my purse,” the victim said. “She had my wallet out and was taking all my credit cards.”
When the pregnant woman tried to confront the suspect and reclaim her purse, the woman began kicking her in the stomach. After the first kick, the victim told the attacker that she was pregnant. Instead of stopping, the woman kicked her again.
“I started crying because when she kicked me the second time, it hurt,” the victim recalled.
Initially, officials at the scene did not believe her story. After she urged them to check the surveillance video, they realized the seriousness of the situation. An ambulance was called, and she was taken to a nearby hospital.
Tragically, multiple ultrasounds revealed that her baby, named Nevaeh, had lost its heartbeat, leading doctors to induce labor. The expectant mother shared her grief, saying, “I cried a lot in the hospital. It didn’t seem real. I think the hardest thing was giving natural birth to her. I lay in bed, crying many times—why did this happen to me? Why did she have to be taken from me?”
The woman expressed a desire to find the suspect and seek justice for her daughter.
Authorities are currently awaiting an autopsy report to determine if the attack was the official cause of the baby’s death. Meanwhile, the pregnant woman’s car was towed from the scene and auctioned off after 30 days.
The Houston Police Department has launched an investigation and is asking anyone with information to contact them or CrimeStoppers.
