Trina McGee, best known for her role as Angela Moore on “Boy Meets World,” recently shared heartbreaking news about her pregnancy journey. At 54, she became pregnant for the fourth time earlier this year, but she suffered a miscarriage shortly after announcing the pregnancy.
During an appearance on the “Tamron Hall Show” on Monday, McGee revealed that she lost the baby three months after disclosing her pregnancy with husband Marcello Thedford in June. “I did lose the baby. It wasn’t expected, and it was closer to the end of the first trimester. We don’t have any real reasons why,” she said. Despite the loss, she expressed gratitude for the chance to conceive at her age.
Now 55, McGee opened up about the emotional toll the miscarriage has taken on her. She described feeling “a lot of depression” and said, “It’s just kind of hard to get out of bed.” McGee elaborated on the challenges of wanting a complete family and facing the reality that it may not happen for her at this stage in life. She is already a mother to three adult children—Ramia, 33, Langston, 30, and Ezra, 26—from her first marriage to actor Courtland Davis.
In June, McGee shared her pregnancy news on Instagram, asking for prayers for a safe delivery. “At the tender age of 54, I have found myself pregnant,” she wrote.
The trend of giving birth later in life is becoming more common in the United States. From 2007 to 2016, the birth rate rose by 19% for women in their early 40s, 11% for those in their late 30s, and 2% for women in their early 30s. In contrast, birth rates for women in their 20s have generally declined during the same period, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
McGee is nearly two decades past the age of 35, which doctors consider “advanced maternal age.” This age threshold was established years ago to help determine which pregnant women should undergo amniocentesis, a prenatal test involving the analysis of amniotic fluid.
Previously, McGee had mentioned that her pregnancy was natural. She hoped her story would inspire other women over 40 who are trying to conceive. “Honestly, I didn’t think it was such a big deal, but then I realized it’s very inspirational for a lot of women over 40 who are looking to conceive,” she said. “When I was typing my Instagram post, I felt like there’s someone out there dealing with this who might need a little help and inspiration.”
