Nadya Suleman, known as “Octomom,” has officially become a grandmother. On Sunday, September 22, Suleman announced the joyful news that one of her sons has welcomed a baby girl into the world.
The 49-year-old media personality shared a heartwarming photo on Instagram, showing the baby girl’s tiny foot poking out from a pink blanket. While she did not disclose which of her 10 sons had the baby, she expressed her gratitude, writing, “Thank you, my son and my lovely daughter-in-law, for giving us this beautiful gift! We are so blessed that she is a new addition to our family!” Suleman also shared that the baby was born on August 30, adding, “Baby girl, you are so very loved, and we can’t wait to watch you grow!!”
Suleman already has 14 children. She was a mother of six — Amerah, Calyssa, Elijah, Caleb, Joshua, and Aidan — before giving birth to her octuplets, who are named Noah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Jonah, Josiah, Makai, Maliyah, and Nariyah, 15 years ago.
Although Suleman stepped back from the public eye in 2013, she remains active on social media. Recently, she posted multiple childhood photos of her son Joshua on August 21 to celebrate his 21st birthday. In her heartfelt message, she suggested that Joshua is the father of the new baby. “I am so proud of the man you are becoming. You are smart, funny, hard-working, loyal, humble, and now a devoted husband and soon-to-be father,” she wrote.
Suleman also shared a joyful video of her family celebrating her birthday on July 11. Her children sang “Happy Birthday” to her, and she expressed her gratitude in the caption, saying, “Thank you kids for making my birthday yesterday so special! I love you all .” Earlier this year, she commemorated her octuplets’ 15th birthday with a nostalgic throwback photo, stating, “I am so proud of the young adults you are growing into!”
When Suleman had her octuplets, she was unemployed and sought various ways to support her family. This included a nude photo shoot, adult films, boxing, and trying to trademark her “Octomom” name.
In a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Suleman reflected on her decision to distance herself from her “Octomom” fame. “I had stopped wanting to do it from day one,” she said. “I was violating my boundaries and my value system and my own self. I didn’t think of it at the time because I was in survival mode, doing whatever I could to provide for my kids.”
Suleman mentioned a turning point in her life: “There was definitely a catalyst — my girls, particularly my oldest daughter Ameerah. She was about 10 and started integrating my traits and behaviors.” She realized she needed to change her path when she saw her daughter emulating her. “I’d rather be homeless in my van with all 14 kids than continue down this path. It was not what I wanted for my children,” Suleman added.
