The Swedish royal palace has announced that Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia are expecting their fourth child. The news was shared via Instagram on Monday, revealing that Princess Sofia, 39, is in good health and the baby is expected to arrive in February 2025. Despite the exciting news, Sofia’s autumn schedule will remain unchanged.
The announcement follows the couple’s recent attendance at Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and shaman Durek Verrett’s wedding in Geiranger, Norway. Prince Carl Philip, 45, and Princess Sofia were accompanied by Carl Philip’s sister, Crown Princess Victoria, and her husband, Prince Daniel. For the wedding, Sofia dazzled in an orange and white ombre pleated gown by Lilli Jahilo, while Crown Princess Victoria wore a striking coral one-shouldered dress by Christer Lindarw.
Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, who wed in Stockholm in 2015, are already parents to three sons: Prince Alexander, 8, Prince Gabriel, 7, and Prince Julian, 3. On August 31, the same day as Princess Martha Louise’s wedding, Carl Philip and Sofia celebrated Gabriel’s seventh birthday. They shared a sweet photo of their smiling son with the caption: “Today our beloved Gabriel turns 7 years!”
The new baby will be eighth in line to the Swedish throne, following his or her older brother, Julian. The child will not be styled as HRH, in accordance with King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 2019 decision. The king ruled that the children of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, as well as Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill’s three children, would not receive the HRH title as they are not expected to perform royal duties in the future. Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill have three children: Princess Leonore, 10, Prince Nicolas, 8, and Princess Adrienne, 6. The family recently returned to Sweden from Florida.
Crown Princess Victoria, the heir to the Swedish throne, is next in line after her children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.
