Detective Inspector Paul Dalton stated on Wednesday that the attack appeared to be a random yet deliberate act. Police have released CCTV footage of a man running from the park, who they believe may have information relevant to the investigation.

When asked if parents should be concerned about the possibility of a similar attack, Dalton responded, “It’s difficult to say.” He added, “In my 35 years as a police officer, I have never encountered a case where a child this young has been attacked under these circumstances.”

Dalton reassured the public, saying, “I understand the community’s concern about an ongoing threat. Please be assured we are doing everything possible to locate this individual. We are working around the clock until this case is resolved.”

A high police presence has been established around the park, with officers canvassing nearby homes for additional CCTV footage and witnesses. Specialist detectives, forensic experts, and uniformed officers are all engaged in the investigation.

“We have allocated all available resources to this case and are pursuing several leads,” Dalton noted.

The baby has undergone surgery and is recovering in hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
