The Berrien County Health Department is emphasizing the advantages of breastfeeding this August, which is National Breastfeeding Month. Tami LeVallee, the department’s breastfeeding peer counselor, is actively informing new mothers about the numerous benefits of breast milk.
According to LeVallee, breastfeeding can reduce the risk of conditions such as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), diabetes, certain cancers, high cholesterol, and allergies.
The Health Department is in the process of establishing a breastfeeding support group and will provide more details soon. In the meantime, mothers seeking breastfeeding assistance can reach out to the Berrien County Health Department for support.
