A tragic accident occurred on August 7 near Yadehalli, Nelamangala, on NH 4 in Bengaluru, resulting in the death of a 30-year-old pregnant woman. Sinchana, who was eight months pregnant, was riding as a pillion passenger on a scooter with her husband, Manjunath, when the incident happened.
The couple was on their way back to their village, Thotanahalli, after visiting a temple at Shivagange. Manjunath, an engineer working in Bengaluru, suffered minor injuries from the crash.
According to the police, the accident unfolded when a KSRTC bus ahead of them stopped abruptly to avoid another collision. Manjunath applied the brakes on their scooter, but a truck carrying M sand, coming from behind, could not stop in time. Despite the truck driver’s attempt to brake, the vehicle struck the scooter, causing it to fall. Sinchana fell under the truck’s wheels.
The Nelamangala police quickly arrived at the scene, arresting the truck driver and seizing the vehicle. Superintendent of Police C.K. Baba visited the location to assess the situation.
This area, known for its hazardous conditions, has seen over 90 fatal accidents in the past six months, according to a senior police officer. Authorities are currently evaluating the road conditions and discussing measures to reduce future accidents.
