by Jessica

Liam and Olivia continue to be the most popular baby names in the United States, but recent data reveals some intriguing state-specific preferences.

While Liam holds the top spot for boys nationwide, in Mississippi, the name John emerged as the most popular choice for newborn boys last year. John, once a top-four name throughout the 20th century, fell to 26th place in 2023 and has not been in the top 10 since the 1970s.

Similarly, in Alabama, William was the leading name for boys, diverging from national trends. Wyoming saw Henry as the top name, while Elijah was the most popular in Hawaii. Notably, Hawaii also saw Isla as the top name for girls, a unique trend among the states.
