Black Country expectant and new parents can receive breastfeeding advice, try pregnancy yoga, and learn about antenatal support at two free events in Walsall and Wolverhampton next month.
In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 August 2024), these sessions are organized in collaboration with The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT), Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, Walsall Council, and City of Wolverhampton Council.
Attendees can access breastfeeding support and participate in various activities such as pregnancy and baby yoga, baby massage, sling safety, and antenatal support.
The first event is scheduled for Monday, 5 August 2024, from 1 pm to 3 pm at Graiseley Family Hub, WV2 4NE.
The second event will be on Tuesday, 6 August 2024, from 10 am to 2 pm at Nash Dom Community Hub, Sun Street, Walsall, WS1 4AL.
Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing at Walsall Council, stated, “We are delighted to work with our Family Hubs and NHS colleagues to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week and highlight the immense benefits of breastfeeding for families and their babies. Breastfeeding provides essential nutrients for a healthy start in life and reduces the risk of infections and illnesses. Improving infant feeding is crucial, as every child in Walsall deserves the best possible start in life, as outlined in our We Are Walsall 2040 borough plan. We are committed to supporting families and recognizing the positive impact of breastfeeding on our community.”
Poppy Davies, Breastfeeding Support Coordinator at RWT, added, “The UK has some of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world, with studies showing that 90 percent of UK women stop breastfeeding before they want to. We understand how challenging it can be, especially in the early days of breastfeeding. We hope parents will attend to learn more about feeding their babies and the support available to them. This way, they can feel more prepared to overcome any feeding challenges that may arise when their baby arrives.”
These free, drop-in events are aimed at parents with young children, new parents, expectant mothers, and their families.
