The United Nations has sounded the alarm about the severe impact of malnutrition on pregnant women and newborns in the Gaza Strip, a region heavily affected by conflict.
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) reported on social media that malnutrition in Gaza is increasingly threatening the health of pregnant women and their babies. The situation has led to a rise in stillbirths and underweight children who are suffering from wasting and delayed growth.
The UNFPA highlighted that low-birth-weight babies are becoming more common in Gaza. This trend is largely attributed to the malnutrition faced by pregnant women and their infants.
In a recent report, the Gaza government media office revealed that 34 children have starved to death, with an additional 3,500 children at risk due to severe malnutrition and starvation.
Since the conflict began, Palestinians and humanitarian organizations have accused the Israeli government of using starvation as a tactic of war. Despite the worsening famine conditions caused by the blockade, Israeli forces continue to block humanitarian aid from reaching Gaza.
