Sister Took My Baby’s Name – She Can’t Meet My Daughter

by Jessica

A family faced a difficult situation when two sisters found themselves liking the same baby name. One sister, who shared her story on Reddit, revealed a lifelong rivalry with her sister Kelly. They have been in constant competition since childhood, clashing in sports, school, and various aspects of life. Now, both sisters are pregnant at the same time, with the Reddit poster getting pregnant first, followed by Kelly.

The woman, who has always dreamed of naming her future daughter Josephine, was dismayed when Kelly and her boyfriend announced they couldn’t wait to meet “baby Josie.” The woman had always hoped Kelly would respect her wish to name her daughter Josephine.

“I called her up to ask if she was really going to name her baby the same name as mine,” the woman wrote, “and she smugly said that I was free to change my baby’s name because she hadn’t been born yet, never mind that she was less far along than I was.”

Determined to stick to her chosen name, the woman did not believe Kelly would actually follow through with naming her baby Josie, especially after the first baby was born. However, after announcing her daughter’s birth on social media, she was horrified to see Kelly posting a picture of custom blankets with the name Josie on them, referring to her baby as “little JoJo,” a nickname the woman and her partner had used for Josephine in their announcement post.

Despite her pleas, Kelly named her baby Josie when she gave birth. In response, the woman cut Kelly out of her life entirely, refusing to let her meet her new niece. The entire family is now divided, forced to choose sides in this ongoing feud.

Commenters on Reddit largely sided with the woman, expressing disbelief at Kelly’s actions and suggesting she seemed determined to cause her sister pain.

“This seems like the last straw for your relationship,” one commenter wrote. “Why would you let that crazy woman around your daughter? She is just trying to set up the sibling competition 2.0.”

Another agreed: “I don’t see a problem with going no contact with someone who seems extremely committed to your unhappiness.”
