Cemeteries Inspire Latest Baby Names Trend

by Jessica

Expectant parents often seek unique baby name inspiration from various sources, but a new TikTok trend has introduced an unconventional idea. Haley Brooks Hodge, a soon-to-be mother of four and the creator behind @hodgehouse, recently suggested that parents-to-be visit local cemeteries to find distinctive names. Her video, filmed at Oakdale Cemetery, has gone viral.

Hodge shared her experience of walking through the cemetery with her family, pointing out names on headstones such as Bellamy, Cooper (after which her sister was named), Magdalene, Meares, Cape, Staley, Clementine, Nora, Adelaide, and Lena. She concluded the video with a list of other unique names, including Lula and Sailor.

The idea resonated with many viewers, who shared their thoughts in the comments. One user admired the name Lisette, while another recounted how their grandmother found the name Alynda in a similar manner, a name that remains unique and well-loved.

Addressing concerns about the concept being dark or “creepy,” one commenter offered a different perspective. “Nothing creepy or strange about cemeteries. History lives there, time capsules filled with memories and a past to be rediscovered. Going to find inspiration or for an excursion is beautiful, people deserve to be honored and remembered,” they said.

For those interested in names from past eras, exploring vintage baby names can also provide a wealth of inspiration.
