Police Investigate Newborn’s Body Found in Box at Lahad Datu Roadside

LAHAD DATU, April 15 — A newborn baby boy was found dead inside a box, wrapped in cloth, at an unnumbered roadside stall in Batu 13, Jalan Jeroco, yesterday afternoon.

According to Harian Metro, Lahad Datu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Dzulbaharin Ismail confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify the person responsible for abandoning the baby.

A member of the public discovered the body around 2 p.m. and immediately reported the incident to the police.

The infant’s body was sent to the Forensics Unit at Lahad Datu Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which addresses concealing the birth and disposing of a body. This offense carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison, a fine, or both.
