A new bench has been installed in the memorial garden of a Plymouth cemetery, providing a quiet space for parents who have experienced the loss of a baby to reflect.
The idea for the bench came from a client of the baby loss charity Pregnancy Crisis Care. Funded through community fundraising and sponsorships, the bench was donated to Plymouth Cemeteries and Crematorium.
Jane Frajbis from Pregnancy Crisis Care expressed the importance of having such a space, saying, “It is really key to have somewhere to reflect.”
Kirsty Sellers, who lost her son Oliver two years ago, shared her thoughts, saying, “When you’re sat on the bench, you look out and hope that your rainbow baby will come.”
Rebecca Bullet, who lost her daughter in 2011, expressed her gratitude toward the charity, saying, “I can say there is nothing like this around. I, for one, will be using it a lot when I come to see my angel.”
The charity noted that the bench also serves as a reminder to grieving individuals that they are not alone in their journey.
Kirstie Willis, a bereavement midwife at Derriford Hospital, emphasized the significance of the gesture, stating, “Knowing that time and effort has gone into providing something for them is really important. It lets them know that others are there to help and support them.”
