Antioch Hosts Baby Shower for Mother of School Shooting Victim

by Jessica

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – On Sunday, the Antioch community gathered to celebrate a baby shower for Josselin Janeth Escalante Vega, the mother of Josselin Corea Escalante, who tragically lost her life in the Antioch High School shooting in January.

The event was a bittersweet occasion, as the community came together to support Vega as she prepares for a new addition to her family, while also remembering the life of her daughter, Josselin.

“It was really emotional,” said Sandra Nallely Hernandez, one of the organizers. “Her family and some community members joined, and there was an emotional moment when a guest brought in a picture of Dayana (Josselin Escalante), but her mom was able to pull herself together and enjoy a little bit of the celebration.”

The event saw many local residents show up to support Vega, with many bringing stuffed bears for both her and the baby.

In a heartfelt moment, Escalante Vega expressed her gratitude in Spanish, saying, “In one way or another, things have continued, and we’re very grateful for everything, for this event.”

Escalante’s father, German Corea, also expressed his appreciation. “We’re very grateful for everything, for accompanying us, and for this event,” he said.

The event was sponsored by Music City Entertainment, Yaya’s Cupcake Factory, MosaicOaks Centre, and Barcater Nashville.
