A 12-year-old girl has been accused of killing a four-month-old baby by throwing her into a well in Parakkal, Pappinissery. The baby, identified as Yasika, was reported missing on Monday night. After an extensive search, her body was found in a well, and she was rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Pappinissery, where she was pronounced dead.
The Valapattanam police have registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances, following section BNSS 194(1).
The baby’s parents, who live in a rented house, were initially unaware of her disappearance. The infant’s father works in the scrap business in Tamil Nadu, and the mother is a housewife. The 12-year-old girl had been staying with the family after the death of her father and her mother’s departure.
Valapattanam SHO Karthik B stated that the investigation raised immediate suspicions about the infant’s death. “The 12-year-old confessed to throwing the baby into the well and later reported her as missing. Her statements were inconsistent, and the parents of the deceased baby expressed doubts about her involvement,” Karthik said.
The motive behind the crime appeared to be jealousy. Authorities believe the girl feared losing the love and attention of the baby’s parents after the infant was born, which drove her to commit the act.
Police have questioned residents from other states who were living nearby and have reviewed CCTV footage from surrounding areas to gather further evidence and details regarding the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
