Royal Couple Shares New Photo Of Baby Daughter Following Major Blunder

by Jessica

Princess Sofia of Sweden has shared the first photo of her newborn daughter, just hours after a naming blunder by her father-in-law, King Carl XVI Gustaf.

The baby, named Princess Ines, was born on February 7 at 1:10 pm at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm. She is the eighth in line to the Swedish throne. On February 11, Princess Sofia posted a heartwarming photo of her three-day-old daughter on Instagram. The infant, wrapped in a knitted blanket, wore a £26 strawberry onesie from The White Company, a British brand.

The newborn’s name was officially confirmed by King Carl XVI Gustaf at a council meeting on Monday. However, in a mishap, the king, who is dyslexic, mistakenly referred to her as Princess Inse. He also mixed up the order of her middle names. The baby’s full title will be Princess Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, Duchess of Västerbotten.

A spokesperson for the Swedish royal court later explained the error. “The King is very sorry for saying the wrong name. The names were kept secret until just before the council meeting, even from the King,” the court said. “He didn’t realize he had made a mistake when reading the names, but he understood later,” the spokesperson added.

Prince Carl Philip, who is the only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, is currently fourth in line to the throne, after his older sister, Crown Princess Victoria, and her children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.

Prince Carl Philip married Princess Sofia in 2015. The couple met in a nightclub in 2010. Before joining the royal family, Princess Sofia was a glamour model and appeared on several Swedish reality shows.
