by Jessica

A Nevada man has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for throwing his infant daughter to her death from an apartment balcony.

Clarence Martin Jr., 37, was convicted in October of murder, child abuse, and animal cruelty related to the death of his nearly two-month-old daughter, London, in October 2020, according to KLAS.

District Judge Carli Kierny described the case as the worst she had ever encountered. “It boggles my mind,” she said during sentencing, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Authorities said London fell more than 22 feet to the ground below. She was allegedly thrown from the balcony during an argument between Martin and his fiancée, London’s mother. When police arrived, they found London’s mother performing CPR on the child.

London was rushed to the hospital but later died from her injuries.

Before leaving the scene, Martin allegedly started a fire in the apartment, damaging the interior and killing the family’s dog.

Police tracked Martin down near Harry Reid International Airport, where he had been spotted wearing a TSA security shirt and had made his way onto the tarmac.

Court records reveal that Martin has been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. His defense attorney, Betsy Allen, told the judge that Martin had “very little memory” of the incident and believed he was “in a movie” at the time of the crime, showing signs of severe delusion.
