PARADISE, Calif. — A 5-month-old baby died after being suffocated when its father fell asleep on top of the infant while intoxicated, Paradise police reported.
The baby’s father, 23-year-old Daniel Eastman of Paradise, was arrested and charged with manslaughter and child abuse resulting in great bodily injury or death. He is currently being held at the Butte County Jail with a bail set at $80,000.
On Sunday night around 11:53 p.m., emergency responders from Paradise Police, Cal Fire, and Butte County EMS were called to the 800 block of Violet Way after a report of an unresponsive baby. Despite efforts to revive the infant, the child was declared dead.
Investigators revealed that Eastman had been intoxicated at the time, which contributed to the baby’s tragic death.
