A large emergency response has shut down a medical centre in South Auckland following the death of a toddler.
The Herald understands that a toddler was brought to Local Doctors on Browns Rd, Manurewa, early this morning. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the child could not be revived. A Hato Hone St John spokesperson confirmed that the service was notified of the incident at 11:35 a.m.
“One ambulance, one rapid response unit, and one operations manager attended,” the spokesperson said.
St John directed further inquiries to the police.
Sources told the Herald that the situation left everyone “distraught,” with emergency services cordoning off the clinic as police conducted an investigation.
“Most likely, the clinic will be closed now,” the source added.
When contacted by the Herald on Wednesday afternoon, a clinic spokeswoman confirmed the closure, citing an “emergency incident.”
Police have since confirmed they are investigating the death after the child was taken to the medical facility in Manurewa.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained while further inquiries are made,” a police spokesperson said.
“At this early stage, we are unable to provide further details.”
