Gal Gadot revealed on Instagram Sunday that she underwent emergency brain surgery 10 months ago after doctors discovered a “massive blood clot” while she was eight months pregnant.
The actress shared that she had been suffering from severe headaches for weeks, which kept her bedridden. After undergoing an MRI, she learned the shocking truth. “In one moment, my family and I were faced with how fragile life can be,” Gadot wrote.
She explained that her daughter, Ori, was born during this period of uncertainty and fear. Alongside a photo of her in a hospital gown breastfeeding Ori, Gadot shared the meaning of her daughter’s name: “my light.” Before the surgery, she told her husband, Jaron Varsano, that their daughter would be the light waiting for her at the end of this difficult experience.
Gadot first announced Ori’s birth in March, also on Instagram. The actress has three other daughters: Alma, 11, Maya, 6, and Daniella, 2.
The actress, known for her role as Wonder Woman, said the emergency surgery took place at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, where she is based. She has since recovered completely.
After a year of personal struggles, Gadot expressed uncertainty about sharing her story. However, she hoped that by doing so, it would help raise awareness and offer support to others in similar situations. “If even one person feels compelled to take action for their health because of this story, it will have been worth sharing,” she wrote to her 108 million followers.
According to Johns Hopkins University, a cerebral venous sinus thrombosis is a blood clot in the brain’s venous sinuses, which impedes proper blood drainage.
Gadot, who stars as the evil queen in Disney’s upcoming “Snow White,” has been a vocal advocate for Israel. In the wake of the October 7 attack by Hamas, which killed over 1,200 people in Israel and resulted in 251 hostages being taken to Gaza, she has used her platform to call for the release of the captives.
