Madeline Gaudreau, the wife of NHL player Johnny Gaudreau’s brother, Matthew Gaudreau, has given birth to their first child, just four months after both brothers tragically died in a road accident.
On December 29, Madeline shared the news on Instagram, revealing the arrival of their son, “Tripp Matthew.” Alongside a photo of herself holding the newborn’s hand, she wrote, “Mommy & Daddy’s world.”
Madeline had announced her pregnancy in June, two months before the devastating accident. Matthew and Johnny were both struck and killed by a Jeep while cycling in New Jersey.
At the brothers’ memorial service in September, Madeline shared emotional memories of Matthew, saying, “He was born to be a dad.” She recalled how Matthew had eagerly prepared for fatherhood, downloading apps, buying books, researching diaper brands, and seeking parenting advice from Johnny. “I will never forget the tears he had in his eyes when he first heard Tripp’s heartbeat,” she added.
Madeline gave birth to baby Tripp just three weeks after Matthew’s 30th birthday. On December 5, she posted a heartfelt tribute to her late husband on Instagram, writing, “Happy Birthday to the best husband and father.” She expressed her deep love and gratitude, saying, “As I celebrate you today (and every day), I am more in love with you and honored to be your wife.”
In a touching message, she added, “John better have friends playing all day, double stuff Oreos and a nice glass of whiskey for you. I love you and can’t wait to kiss your face again.”
In October, Madeline shared photos from her baby shower, which featured blue balloons spelling out “Baby Tripp.” Among the guests was Johnny’s wife, Meredith Gaudreau, who also announced her pregnancy with their third child at the memorial for the brothers.
Later that month, the families of the late brothers attended a special tribute during the Columbus Blue Jackets’ season opener. A banner with Johnny’s name and jersey number, 13, was raised at Nationwide Arena. Johnny and Meredith’s daughter, Noa, 2, was seen pointing up at the rafters during the ceremony.
Meredith, who also shares a son, Johnny, 10 months, with her late husband, expressed her gratitude on Instagram, saying, “Thank you to our entire Columbus Blue Jackets family for such a beautiful night celebrating our favorite guy.” She added that Nationwide Arena felt like a second home, and she could see in Noa’s eyes that she, too, felt close to Johnny there.
