In a tragic event on Monday evening, police confirmed that five people, including three adults and two children, were killed in what authorities suspect was a murder-suicide.
Officers responded to a wellness check at an apartment in DeKalb County, Georgia, around 7:30 p.m. local time. Upon entering the residence, they found the bodies of a five-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy, along with three adults: a 43-year-old woman, a 32-year-old man, and a 26-year-old woman.
While investigations are ongoing, authorities believe the incident may have been triggered by a domestic dispute. At this stage, few details are available.
This tragedy follows a similar case in Portage, Indiana, where a man reportedly shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself, all in front of their wounded daughter. Police arrived at the scene to find the bodies of 46-year-old Brandy Manville and her 45-year-old husband, Charles Manville. The couple’s 21-year-old daughter, who was also shot, survived and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
According to police, the 911 call from the home indicated that Charles Manville was intoxicated and throwing items around the house before he became armed with a gun. During the call, the operator reported hearing a man scream that everyone in the house was going to die, followed by gunshots.
Officers arriving on the scene also heard gunfire before breaking into the home. Inside, they discovered the bodies of the two deceased adults and their daughter. Brandy Manville, a longtime administrative assistant at Portage High School, had worked there for many years before her death.
Portage High School has since expressed deep sorrow over her loss. Principal Michael Stills praised her impact on the school community, stating, “I have 2,200 kids. Almost everyone of them knows who Mrs. Manville is. As you might understand, it’s going to be about what the kids need as much as possible. Education will take a secondary role this week.”
Local authorities have extended their condolences to the victims’ families and are continuing their investigation into the motives behind both incidents.
