Lucy Letby Interrogated in Jail Over Additional Baby Deaths at Two Hospitals

by Jessica

Lucy Letby, the former neonatal nurse convicted of multiple baby murders, has been interviewed in prison by Cheshire police in connection with further alleged killings. Letby, who worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital, was convicted in August 2023 for murdering seven babies and attempting to kill six others, including two attempts on one victim. A retrial in July 2024 also resulted in her conviction for an eighth attempted murder.

Following her conviction, police began a comprehensive review of the 4,000 babies Letby cared for during her career, which began in 2012 and included two training placements at Liverpool Women’s Hospital. The interview focused on incidents at both the Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital, where a number of babies died or collapsed under suspicious circumstances.

Cheshire police confirmed the interview took place “following agreement” and under caution, but did not disclose the exact timing or the number of specific cases discussed. A spokesperson said: “Further updates will follow as the investigation into baby deaths and non-fatal collapses at both hospitals continues.”

Sources told the Daily Mail that any new charges could be filed in the new year. Letby, who is serving a whole-life sentence at HMP Bronzefield in Ashford, Surrey, was accompanied by her legal representative during the interview.

The Thirlwall public inquiry, which is examining the events surrounding Letby’s crimes, is expected to continue until early 2025, with its findings due in late autumn next year. Dr. Stephen Brearey, a consultant paediatrician who raised initial concerns about Letby, testified at the inquiry last month, suggesting that Letby may have had victims before June 2015, when her killing spree is believed to have begun.
