1st December 2024 – (Florida) Daisy Link, a Florida woman incarcerated on murder charges, has given birth to a daughter, with the child’s father being fellow inmate Joan Depaz. In a remarkable turn of events, the two have never met in person and have had no physical contact, according to their statements.
Both Link and Depaz have been in custody since at least 2022, facing serious murder charges. In June, Link gave birth to a daughter, whom she refers to as a “miracle baby” and a “blessing.” During a jailhouse interview, she expressed astonishment at the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy. Miami-Dade Corrections officials have confirmed that an internal investigation is currently underway.
The unusual relationship between the two inmates developed through unconventional communication methods, including air conditioning vents and the exchange of notes and pictures. Link explained to WSVN that their conversations through the vents led to a romantic bond. Depaz, 23, eventually expressed a desire to have a child, and Link, 29, agreed to this unconventional plan.
Using bedding to create a makeshift line between their cells, Depaz managed to pass semen to Link, who then used a medical applicator for conception. Link described the process, saying, “I can’t believe it worked. I think everything happened for a reason.”
Depaz likened their situation to the Virgin Mary, highlighting the miraculous nature of the pregnancy despite their lack of physical interaction.
Since the birth, the couple has been separated, as they are now held in different jails. However, they continue to communicate via phone and video visits with their daughter. Court records indicate Depaz’s murder trial is set for May 2025, while Link’s trial date has yet to be scheduled.
