A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for a Shreveport woman who was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer while 20 weeks pregnant with her “miracle baby.”
Malory Selman, 30, and her husband, David, struggled with infertility for six years before finally conceiving their daughter, Camille, earlier this year.
To help with the mounting costs of cancer treatments, medical bills, and travel expenses, Malory’s sister, Hilary Greer, set up the GoFundMe page.
In an update on the campaign, Malory shared that when Camille (nicknamed Millie) was tested for chromosomal abnormalities, the results were unexpected. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) reached out to the family’s maternal-fetal medicine specialist, suggesting that Malory may be the one with a health issue, rather than the baby. This led to a series of tests, including blood work and a full-body MRI in Washington, D.C.
The next day, the family received a call from the NIH oncologist with the shocking news: Malory had Stage 4 colon cancer, which had spread to her liver.
Following the diagnosis, Malory’s care was transferred to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. The family has since relocated to Houston for treatment.
“I’m so grateful for this pregnancy and my girl, who has absolutely saved my life,” Malory wrote. “Without this pregnancy, we would have never known or found out what was actually going on inside my body.”
She also expressed her thanks for the support of their friends and family over the past few weeks.
“Please pray for our girl to grow a little more before she has to come into this world,” Malory wrote in the GoFundMe update. “And pray treatment works so I will be there to bother David for the rest of his life and be there with our girl.”
