Naomi Biden, the granddaughter of President Joe Biden, is expecting her first child with husband Peter George Heermann Neal.
The 30-year-old announced the exciting news on Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Nov. 5, coinciding with Election Day. In a mirror selfie, Naomi showed off her growing baby bump, which was adorned with a voting sticker. “We voted,” she wrote above the photo, adding an American flag and upside-down smiling emojis.
Naomi is the daughter of Hunter Biden, the president’s son, and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle. In November 2022, she married Peter Neal in a private ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House. The wedding marked a historic moment, being the first White House wedding in nearly a decade and the first wedding for a grandchild of a sitting president.
Both President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden attended the ceremony. Naomi, a Columbia Law graduate, was walked down the aisle by both her parents. In a tribute to her mother, Naomi carried Lilies of the Valley, a family tradition.
The couple had announced their engagement in September 2021 and confirmed earlier in 2022 that they had chosen the White House as their wedding venue. Their ceremony was the first wedding held on the White House grounds since 2013.
Naomi has often spoken about her close relationship with her grandfather. In a past interview with PBS Newshour, she shared how central President Biden is to the Biden family, noting that they all grew up together and made family decisions collectively. Naomi also mentioned that she was excited her grandfather would be living just a few miles away after his inauguration.
This new addition to the Biden family is sure to add another chapter to their already close-knit dynamic.
