Halloween Drink Warning: May Cause Accidental Pregnancy

by Jessica

A TikTok user has raised concerns about a Halloween drink that could lead to unplanned pregnancies. Natalka Burian, known as @natalkaburian on TikTok, warned women about a black-colored ingredient commonly found in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

In her viral video, which has received over 660,000 views, Burian advised, “If you don’t want to accidentally get pregnant during this Halloween season, listen up.” She highlighted that many festive drinks might contain this ingredient, showing a picture of a black martini-style cocktail garnished with a blackberry.

Burian explained that the black color comes from activated charcoal, a tasteless and odorless powder derived from plant sources like coal, wood chips, coconut shells, and tree bark. According to WebMD, activated charcoal can bind to toxins in the body through a process called adsorption, preventing these toxins from spreading.

She further noted that activated charcoal can also accelerate the removal of certain drugs from the system, even after they have been absorbed. “Activated charcoal is a frontline treatment for toxicity and removing toxins from the body,” Burian stated.

However, she cautioned that this ingredient can also eliminate medications, including birth control pills and antibiotics, which are essential for maintaining consistent levels in the bloodstream. “So have fun, but please be careful,” Burian advised.

Reactions to her video were positive, with one viewer calling it “a very important PSA,” while another found the information “incredibly helpful.” Comments included “Adding this to the safety brief,” highlighting the significance of her message.

Despite the warnings, doctors have cautioned against inhaling activated charcoal, as it can lead to serious breathing problems or even death. Those with specific medical conditions, such as intestinal bleeding or bowel blockages, are also advised to avoid using activated charcoal.
