Bradford Cathedral is hosting a remembrance service for individuals affected by baby loss. The event, called the “Saying Goodbye” service, is organized in collaboration with the Mariposa Trust. This charity was founded in 2012 to support those who have lost a child during pregnancy, at birth, or in infancy.
The service is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM GMT and will feature music, poetry, and acts of remembrance. This event is part of a series of approximately 28 services organized by the Mariposa Trust at cathedrals, minsters, and abbeys across seven countries this year.
The charity was established by Zoe Clark-Coates and her husband, Andy, after they experienced the loss of five babies. Earlier this month, Mrs. Clark-Coates achieved a significant milestone by winning a nine-year campaign to allow more bereaved parents to apply for certificates recognizing their baby’s loss during pregnancy. Previously, only parents who lost a child after 2018 could apply, but now all affected individuals can seek recognition, regardless of when their loss occurred.
Mrs. Clark-Coates expressed that these remembrance services provide a “beautiful opportunity for mothers, fathers, siblings, and extended family to say goodbye to their babies and show they are truly loved.” She emphasized, “Our job at the Mariposa Trust is to ensure every child is recognized, however fleeting their existence.”
Mr. Clark-Coates added, “We invite anyone who has gone through or been affected by baby loss, whether recently or decades ago, to join us for this special event.”
