Mother Charged with Murder in Tragic Death of Newborn Left in Hot Car

by Jessica

An Illinois mother faces serious charges after her one-month-old son died from cocaine intoxication, along with heat stress, dehydration, malnutrition, and neglect. The revelations come from the coroner’s office and were reported by WMBD.

The baby, Grayson Luncsford, had a significant amount of cocaine in his system, which was determined to be the immediate cause of death. His mother, Andrea Luncsford, is indicted on charges of murder and endangering the life and health of a child.

Police discovered Grayson in a U-Haul truck rented by his mother. An autopsy indicated that he had been dead for 12 to 24 hours. Andrea, 26, an OnlyFans model, had driven the truck for several days following the funeral of Grayson’s father on September 14, according to 25 News.

Reports state that Andrea admitted to being alone with the baby for most of the day. She fed him several bottles, including one she propped up on the car seat to allow him to feed himself.

Just a week before his death, Grayson’s grandmother, Tonya Luncsford, shared a joyful photo of herself holding the baby on Facebook.

Grayson’s grandfather, Andrew Luncsford, expressed concern for his daughter and the baby just hours before the tragedy. He texted her, urging, “You know that baby can overheat and die, please let us help you, from dad to mom,” according to Fox 2 News.

On September 16, Andrew tracked his daughter down to a home in Peoria’s East Bluff, where he found Grayson unconscious in the truck. He immediately called emergency services, who attempted to revive the infant but declared him dead at the scene.

When police arrived, they found Andrea behaving erratically and later confirmed she tested positive for cocaine. Andrew informed the officers that his daughter had ignored his messages that day and only later told him that the baby had stopped breathing.

He also mentioned that Andrea attempted to drive away when the grandparents arrived to help with Grayson.

Andrea, who has a criminal record dating back to 2019, had been taken into custody earlier on suspicion of endangering Grayson. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services had begun an investigation into concerns of substantial risk of physical injury or an unsafe environment on September 6, according to spokesperson Deborah Lopez.

Andrea has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is currently held in the Peoria County Jail. Her next court date is set for November.
