A mother is seeking help from a stranger to choose a name for her upcoming baby. Natassia, 34, and her husband, Peter, 37, have struggled to agree on a name.
Natassia, from Knightsbridge, wants a unique name, while Peter prefers to name their child after someone they know. To resolve their differences without conflict, the couple decided to seek outside help.
Natassia posted a request on Airtasker, a platform where people can hire others for various tasks, offering £150 for the best baby name suggestion. Their baby is due in mid-December, and they have chosen not to find out the gender until the birth.
So far, 54 name suggestions have been submitted. Names for girls include Demi and Xanthi, while boy names suggested are Antonio and Tonino.
Natassia expressed her enjoyment of the process, saying, “The responses have made me laugh, and I’ve actually enjoyed reading them. It’s taken my mind off the stress. I’m more excited than nervous, to be honest.”
She explained that outsourcing the naming decision seemed like an easy solution to their debate. Although friends and family offered help, Natassia preferred an unbiased opinion.
Initially, Peter was hesitant to let a stranger choose their child’s name, but the couple decided to add a personal touch. They have a two-year-old daughter, Yianna, who will help with the final decision.
Natassia explained, “We’re going to shortlist three boy and three girl names, write them down, and put them in a hat. Our daughter will pick a name from the hat!”
The couple has previously used Airtasker for various home tasks, such as furniture assembly and setting up their nursery. They thought trying this approach for naming their baby would be fun.
While they are open to ideas, they have ruled out one name: George, for personal reasons. In her Airtasker post, Natassia asked for names that would make grandparents smile yet still feel modern. She also encouraged applicants with experience in naming pets, plants, or other small beings.
Many applicants shared their qualifications. One responder, Aakarsha, wrote, “I hold a Bachelor’s with honors in Psychology and am pursuing a Master’s in Clinical Psychology. I have two dogs and five birds, so I know a bit about naming pets. I also have a knack for unique names.”
Another applicant, Dan, shared his experience, stating, “I’m in the same boat! I’m eight weeks away from welcoming our second child, so baby names are a big topic for us. We’ve faced similar challenges, which gives me a good perspective.”
Uzoma, another interested applicant, mentioned, “I studied Psychology and understand the challenge you and your husband are facing. I can help you come to a compromise with a lovely name that your family will love.”
This unique approach to naming reflects the couple’s desire for a name that resonates with both parents while involving their daughter in the process.
