Port Adelaide star Aliir Aliir and his partner, Sabina Wheatley, have announced the arrival of their second child, a baby boy. The couple welcomed their new addition on Tuesday, just days after the Power’s season ended in a heartbreaking preliminary final loss.

Aliir and Wheatley shared three photos of their baby but did not disclose his name. In their post, they wrote, “Our baby boy has arrived 24/09/2024.” The announcement quickly garnered likes and congratulations from friends and the AFL community. Comments included heartfelt messages such as, “Wow, congratulations beautiful fam!” and “How adorable!”

Aliir has previously expressed how becoming a father has been a transformative experience for him. He described it as the best thing that has ever happened to him. “I don’t even know how to describe (becoming a dad), to be honest. It’s been such a blessing. I’ve got a little six-month-old baby, and there are times when you get only two hours of sleep, but you wake up holding him, and it feels like you’ve slept for nine hours,” he said ahead of the 2023 season. “He’s the best thing that’s happened to me.”

Born in a Kenyan refugee camp to South Sudanese parents, Aliir has become an inspiring figure in the AFL. He was first drafted by Sydney before joining Port Adelaide ahead of the 2021 season, where he significantly improved his game.

In his first season with the Power, he was selected for the All-Australian team and established himself as one of the top intercept defenders in the league. This year, he played 25 games, including his 150th match, as the Power finished second on the ladder before their recent loss to Sydney in the preliminary final.
