On a typical Tuesday night, Ilan Buaron, a 22-year-old Wolt courier, began his shift with no inkling of the extraordinary delivery he would make later. Besides delivering food, Buaron has been volunteering with Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency medical service. At 2:00 a.m., he picked up a pizza from a Ramat Gan restaurant, placed it in his delivery box, and set off on his moped towards the customer’s address.
The routine delivery took an unexpected turn when Buaron received an urgent message from Magen David Adom. A woman in Ramat Gan was in the midst of childbirth at home. Realizing the woman’s residence was just two blocks away, Buaron swiftly altered his course and sped to her aid, pizza in tow.
Upon arrival, Buaron found the woman, supported by her husband and mother, in the late stages of labor. Despite it being his first time in such a situation, he capably assisted her in delivering a healthy baby boy. Amidst the chaos, Buaron also informed Wolt’s service center about the diversion, explaining he had stopped to help with a birth and would be delayed.
As for the pizza? The original order was replaced with a fresh one for the waiting customers, while the pizza Buaron had initially collected was enjoyed by the ambulance crew who arrived at the scene. Buaron’s quick thinking and compassionate actions ensured both a successful delivery and a memorable night for all involved.
