A 30-year-old woman, Norshuhaida Ramli, who is due to give birth to her first child tomorrow, was rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) today. She was trapped in her home, which was submerged by floods in Kampung Kota Mengkuang.
Norshuhaida’s husband, Mohd Fitri Hamzah, 31, explained that they had planned to admit her to the hospital, but the floods prevented them from doing so. They had to call on the JBPM for help. “The firefighters used a four-wheel drive to get us out of our flooded home,” he said. “Then, my wife was taken to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in an ambulance.”
In a separate incident, Mohd Aliff Madian, 24, from Kampung Baru Malau, also found himself dealing with the flood. He and his wife, Siti Rosmah Farahayu Rosli, 24, were compelled to move to a temporary evacuation center (PPS) when the water level in their home began to rise.
Aliff expressed relief at their decision to act quickly. He and his wife were particularly concerned for the safety of their six-month-old baby during the crisis.
