A pregnant woman suffered a miscarriage and lost her unborn baby after being assaulted by two schoolboys while waiting for a bus in Tranent, East Lothian. The incident occurred on High Street around 6:20 p.m. last Friday.

According to reports, the altercation began when the teenagers pushed the woman off a bench, causing her to fall to the ground. They then fled the scene. The following afternoon, the woman was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by her husband due to severe bleeding and unbearable pain.

In his emotional post, the husband expressed his heartbreak: “It is with a heavy heart that I inform everyone my wife had a miscarriage and is still in the hospital recovering. This has been a traumatic and devastating experience for our family. I urge everyone to speak with their children about respect and proper behavior.”

The social media post has garnered widespread sympathy, with many expressing their sorrow and support. One comment read: “Sorry to hear this; I hope those responsible are charged.” Another noted: “I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope you get justice.”

The teenagers involved were described as high school students in black uniforms—one wearing shorts and the other trousers. The woman had initially offered them a seat and attempted to be kind, but the teenagers were reportedly rude. After being informed that the woman was pregnant, they apologized and ran away.

The husband shared on Saturday that his wife was still experiencing severe pain and bleeding, and they were awaiting an ambulance. He reiterated his call for justice.

Mike Falconer, chairperson of the Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council, extended his sympathies: “This is a terrible situation. Thankfully, such incidents are rare. I hope those responsible are found and held accountable for their actions.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed they are investigating the assault, which occurred on August 30. “Enquiries are ongoing,” the spokesperson said.
