Newborn Baby Boy Found Hurt Outside Melbourne Home

by Jessica

A baby boy is in stable condition after being found with serious injuries outside a home in Melbourne’s south-east. The infant was discovered on Gladstone Road, Dandenong North, around 2:40 a.m. on Friday. He was rushed to Monash Children’s Hospital in critical condition, but his status was later updated to stable by a hospital spokeswoman around 1:30 p.m.

Police are investigating the case. A 25-year-old woman from the home was also taken to the hospital and was under police guard on Friday morning. Her housemates, who were unaware of her pregnancy, expressed relief that the baby is doing better and offered their support.

The house, which had a “sold” sign and was cordoned off with police tape, was under investigation. Detectives were present at the scene around midday.

Neighbors Carmela Fato and her grandson, Carlos Pereyra, who live across the street, said they did not notice anything unusual during the night. They were surprised by the incident and described the previous occupants of the house as quiet and private.

Forensic teams were at the scene, examining a set of drawers and photographing a stain on a windowsill. The house is located next to a medical clinic and near a childcare center. A staff member from the center reported seeing police vehicles when arriving at work around 6:50 a.m.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
