Health Canada has announced a recall of Gerber Oat Banana & Mango Baby Cereal due to potential contamination with Cronobacter bacteria.
The recall affects 227 g packages of the cereal with a best-before date of May 30, 2025. These products were sold online and in stores across Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and possibly other provinces and territories.
Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled cereal. Instead, they should either dispose of it or return it to the store where it was purchased.
Health Canada warns that Cronobacter-contaminated food may not appear or smell spoiled but can still pose a health risk. In rare cases, it can lead to serious or fatal infections. The bacteria can be particularly dangerous for newborns, potentially causing severe intestinal infections and blood poisoning.
