Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly convened a meeting at the government headquarters in New Alamein City to discuss new procedures for managing the distribution of subsidized baby formula and to explore methods for increasing production, according to a statement from the cabinet on Sunday.
Madbouly emphasized President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives, which stress the need for better coordination among national agencies to boost local baby formula production. The aim is to use advanced technology to build a strong foundation for producing high-quality milk that meets local demand and reduces dependence on imports.
Cabinet spokesman Mohamed El Homosany noted that the meeting involved discussions on offering a variety of milk packages at affordable prices, targeting underserved groups based on specific criteria.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the progress of Lacto-Misr Company in improving its baby formula production capacity and examined steps to increase output.
The discussion also covered cases for milk distribution approval, including situations with twins or multiple infants, mothers with chronic illnesses requiring long-term medication that affects breastfeeding, mothers who have stopped breastfeeding for over a month, and cases where the mother has passed away.
Attendees included Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population; Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport; Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Advisor to the President for Health and Prevention Affairs; and Major General Magdy Anwar, Director General of the National Service Projects Authority of the Armed Forces.
