EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Testimony has started in the trial of Taylor Smith, an Evansville mother accused in the death of her baby.
Smith was arrested after police reported she fell asleep and woke up to find her 13-day-old baby, Wade Wilson, beneath her.

The incident occurred on West Oregon Street in June 2022.

On the first day of the trial, court records show several charges were dismissed, including reckless homicide.
Smith still faces charges of neglect resulting in death and multiple drug-related offenses.
The infant’s father, Timothy Wilson, is set to go on trial in October.
