Husband’s Controversial Baby Name Choice Upsets Wife

by Jessica

A husband has sparked a debate over his favorite baby name choice after his wife admitted she finds it “terrible.”

In a recent Reddit post, a woman sought advice from users regarding a name her partner is fixated on, called Mips, which she does not like. She explained that her husband has always been fond of the name, despite her objections.

“My husband has been obsessed with this name since before we had kids, and he won’t budge no matter what I say,” she shared.

She elaborated on why she dislikes the name, despite her husband’s positive view.

“I think the name could make our child a target for teasing and not be taken seriously,” she added. “My husband finds it cute and thinks it could start a new naming trend.”

She also mentioned that her husband is considering “Mipsie” as an option. Despite emphasizing his seriousness about the name, she turned to Reddit for help convincing him that it’s a “terrible” choice.

The post quickly gained attention, receiving over 18,000 upvotes. Commenters criticized the husband’s choice, with many agreeing that it wouldn’t suit a child or adult.

“Naming a baby should be a mutual decision. Luckily for you, it’s a no-go,” one commenter wrote, while another joked, “If he likes ‘Mipsie,’ get a cat – it sounds like a cute pet name!”

Others joined in criticizing the husband, some even suggesting the wife reconsider their marriage and stop him from suggesting more baby names.

In an update, the wife defended her husband against some criticism, affirming her commitment to him despite their disagreement over “Mips.”

“We have a list of baby names we both like, but ‘Mips’ is the only one I’ve vetoed,” she clarified. “He thinks it’s a good name for a child, but thankfully he’s open to other options.”

She shared a message from her husband, who admitted that “Mip/Mipsie” might not be the best names. They ultimately agreed that they would choose a more conventional name for their child.

This viral discussion is not the first time baby names have sparked debate on Reddit. Earlier this year, a woman received praise for rejecting her husband’s suggestion of “Stuarta” for their daughter, citing concerns over potential awkwardness and teasing.
