A mother has revealed that she kicked her sister-in-law out of her daughter’s baby shower after the sister-in-law made a hurtful comment that brought the expectant mother to tears. The incident, however, seems to have united the family in support of the mother’s decision.
The 47-year-old woman shared her story on Reddit’s “Am I The A——” forum, explaining that the drama unfolded at the baby shower for her 25-year-old daughter, who was expecting her second child. The mother also revealed that two years earlier, her daughter had lost her first child, Phillip, who was stillborn at 38 weeks.
At the time of the tragedy, the woman’s daughter asked the family to dismantle the nursery and remove all baby items from the house, as they were too painful to be around. The family offered to return the baby shower gifts, but most of the givers chose to donate the items instead, except for one person—her sister-in-law, Rachel.
According to the mother, Rachel had a strong reaction to the situation, calling her niece’s request “ridiculous” and constantly speaking out about how “hysterical” her niece was. This tension led the mother to limit Rachel’s involvement in family events, only allowing her to attend if she agreed to stop bringing up the topic.
The situation worsened at the baby shower when Rachel, once again, made an inappropriate remark while gifts were being opened. She loudly criticized her niece, saying, “If you hadn’t torn Phillip’s nursery apart and gotten rid of everything, you wouldn’t be here begging for presents for this baby.” This comment caused the expectant mother to freeze, and tears began to stream down her face.
The mother, upset by the remark, asked Rachel to leave the event. When Rachel refused, the mother took action by removing her gift from the pile, walking it to the door, and demanding that Rachel leave. The situation escalated when the mother’s husband entered the room, and after hearing the details, physically removed his sister from the house.
While the family was initially divided over the incident, they later held a meeting where they unanimously agreed that Rachel was to blame for the outburst. The family decided that she should not be allowed to attend any more gatherings involving the children.
