Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins and his wife, Becky, have welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Edith.

Becky shared the joyful news on Instagram, posting a picture of their newborn daughter being held by her mother. “She’s here,” Becky wrote. “Our beautiful baby girl, Edi … Words can’t describe how overjoyed & full of love we feel right now.”

Cummins, who is currently on paternity leave during Australia’s Test tour of Sri Lanka, had previously spoken about wanting to find a better balance between his professional cricket career and family life.

In October, he said, “I missed a big chunk of son Albie’s early days last time, and I want to spend more time at home for that initial period this time around.”

He emphasized the importance of prioritizing family, adding, “Within reason, no one is ever going to bat an eyelid if someone needs to put their family first.”

Cummins also highlighted the need for a balance in the sport: “We’re playing cricket, it’s not the end of the world, so we want people to have long, successful careers for Australia, and you can’t just ask them to put their life on hold to go tour the world and forget about everything else. We’re pretty open when it comes to family.”

This shift toward prioritizing family life in cricket seems to be gaining momentum. Recently, players like Travis Head and Mitch Marsh took paternity leave for the series against Pakistan. In 2020, Indian star Virat Kohli also flew home during a Test series against Australia to be present for the birth of his first child.

The Cummins family announced their first pregnancy, with son Albie, on Instagram in 2021. Becky has also shared updates of her second pregnancy journey.

Cummins, however, will miss next month’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan due to an injury.
