Sherwood officials recently celebrated the opening of the city’s first baby box, located at the Sherwood Fire Department on 400 Lantrip Road.
The Safe Haven baby box was blessed on Wednesday, with Sherwood Fire Chief John Sawyer expressing the team’s excitement about the new resource. “Once we get that first little one, the excitement from everyone—our staff—taking care of the child and giving it a better chance at life, that’s what it’s all about,” Sawyer said.
The baby boxes are designed to provide a safe, anonymous option for surrendering an infant. Available 24/7, the boxes are equipped with silent alarms that notify first responders when a baby is placed inside.
This new addition marks the 26th baby box in Arkansas and the 307th in the United States, according to Safe Haven officials.
