At the stroke of midnight on January 1, 2025, India marked the arrival of its first baby from the new generation, known as ‘Gen Beta’. Born at 12:03 AM, Baby Frankie, hailing from Aizawl in Mizoram, became not only India’s first newborn of the year but also the first of his generation.
Children born between 2025 and 2039 will be classified as part of ‘Generation Beta.’
The healthy baby boy, Frankie Remruatdika Zadeng, was born at Synod Hospital in Durtlang. He joins a family of three, with his older sister, mother Ramzirmawii, and father ZD Remruatsanga, who are from Khatla East in Aizawl. According to Sister Lalchhuanawmi from Synod Hospital, Frankie weighed 3.12 kg at birth and is in good health with no complications.
Ramzirmawii expressed her joy to All India Radio (AIR), sharing her happiness at giving birth to the country’s first Beta boy.
While Baby Frankie holds this special place in India, globally, a baby girl named Remi in Australia is considered the first of Generation Beta. Remi was born two weeks earlier than expected to Tze-Ling Huang and Liam Walsh in Comboyne, New South Wales.
Who Are the Parents of Generation Beta?
Generation Beta will be the children of younger Gen Y (Millennials) and older Gen Z parents, as per research from market research firm McCrindle. These children are born into an era where their parents are more tech-savvy and aware of the advantages and drawbacks of social media from an early age. This could mean that Gen Beta will develop a more balanced relationship with social media compared to the younger Gen Alpha.
According to McCrindle, Gen Z parents (36%) are more likely to prioritize limiting screen time for their children compared to Millennial parents (30%).
