Karen Gillan has become a mother!
On Thursday, January 2, the 37-year-old Doctor Who star shared the exciting news of her first child’s arrival with husband Nick Kocher. The actress posted a series of heartwarming photos on Instagram, showing her newborn daughter. One picture shows Gillan holding the baby on her shoulder while the little one peacefully sleeps in a gray onesie.
The actress also shared images of her husband cradling their baby, along with one of them each holding mugs that read “Best Dad Ever” and “Best Mom Ever.”
“2024 thank you for giving us Clementine,” Gillan wrote in her caption, revealing the name of their daughter. She also humorously added, “Also as per the last slide – I shot a film called ‘Let’s Have Kids’ right as I got preggo in real life so take that Daniel Day Lewis.”
In September, the Guardians of the Galaxy star showed off her baby bump at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her film The Life of Chuck. During the event, Gillan was seen wearing a yellow dress and cradling her belly, smiling alongside co-stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tom Hiddleston, and Stephen King.
Gillan married Kocher in May 2022, and the couple announced their wedding on social media later that year. The two met through Instagram’s “recommended friends” feature, as Gillan shared in a 2023 appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark. She explained how she messaged Kocher on Twitter, after he didn’t initially respond to her Instagram message. “I DMed him on Twitter saying, ‘Hi, your tweets are really funny. I’m Karen, by the way,’” she recalled.
Although they have kept their relationship mostly private, Kocher has joined Gillan at various public events, including the premiere of Catch-22 in 2019, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2023, and a Golden Globes afterparty in 2024.
