CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The new year brought joy to one family as they welcomed a baby boy, the first to be born at UVA Health in 2025.
“It’s different. It’s an amazing feeling, but I wasn’t expecting it,” said mother Taquesia Thompson.
Thompson and Trevon Lucas celebrated the birth of their son, Kenzai Lucas, at 2:02 a.m. on January 1st. Kenzai is the first baby born at UVA Health this year.
“I was hoping he would come a little closer to the due date, but at the same time, I was ready for it to be over. It’s definitely a great feeling,” Thompson added.
The couple’s other two children were eagerly awaiting their baby brother.
“They’re honestly super excited,” Thompson said. “My daughter kept asking every day, ‘Is the baby coming yet? He’s taking too long!’”
The moment was filled with joy for the entire family.
“She’s just happy he’s here, and my son can’t stop smiling,” said father Trevon Lucas.
